Games are just another tool

elearnspace posted a link to an article by David Secko who reminds us that games are really just another tool for getting information across. Much of what people say about games it aimed at the commercial games that are played by the "youth" of today. I am not so naive to think that educational games even have a hope in hades of getting kids to stop playing WOW or GT4, I'm more of the mind that we should hijack these games to squeeze what educational worth they may have (very much like Gee in this interview). Games have always been around, but now that they are part of an industry that is bigger than Hollywood, it seems they may be the latest in a list of "fall guys" - TV, Radio, Comics...
